Key Club Scholarship

Waukesha North Key Club students are selling Worlds Finest Chocolate around the school. Key Club is fundraising for the Senior scholarship. The senior scholarship is for the Key Club senior member that has been with the club for 3 or more years. Seniors have to write a story on how Key Club skills can and will be beneficial to them in the future. The money raised from the chocolate bars will go toward the winner of the scholarship.

Springing Into Action!

Well guys; it's finally here! After 3 long months of winter, we've finally hit the best season of the year; spring time! What does that mean here at Waukesha North? It means the end of long seasons of basketball, wrestling, and swimming, and transitioning into new seasons of sports like tennis, track, and soccer! Outside of the athletic realm, we've also got the upcoming spring play to look forward to, as well as many club activities too! But by far, the thing that students enjoy most about spring is the break that comes with it; here's a few exciting things our school's students are doing over Spring Break:

"Going to Chicago." ~Alyssa Holliman
"I'm going to Disney!" ~Lexi Witek
"College tours!" ~Avery Marzolf
"I'm going to Florida and I've never been to Florida in my life." ~Henry Laste

These students are all super excited about the break on the horizon; and they all have something else in common too! They've all been working hard on this year's yearbook! The book is finally almost completed, and this week the final pages are being sent to the plant to be printed! Spring's also the season to make sure you pickup your yearbook too if you haven't already! You can get yours at yearbookforever.com/waukeshanorth today for $75! Don't miss your chance to get a physical commemoration of all this year's great moments, events, and memories.

The Dance Team Is Nationals Bound!

Tomorrow March 3rd the Waukesha North dance team will be heading on their way to Orlando Florida to compete in a National dance competition. The team can't wait to bond and hangout in Florida. The team will be competing their 90's themed hip hop routine along with their fun, crowd pleasing pom routine. In addition to those two routines there will be a duet with Caitie Batchelor and Kenzie Shutta that will also be competed at nationals. Kenzie Shutta is also
doing a solo at the competition. The dance team is excited to see how they will place among teams from all different states since they have only ever competed against teams from Wisconsin. This will be the dance team's first ever nationals experience. While it might be a stressful two days at competition, the team is excited to also get to relax in the Disney parks and along side the hotel pool. North's dance team is the only Waukesha dance team that will be going to nationals so they are really glad that they get the opportunity to represent their city. Everyone is ready for some sunshine and an unforgettable experience.

Happy Leap Day!

It's the hoppiest day of the year!

By: Malory Strehl & Abby Kokal

February 29th only comes along once every four years, but why? What makes leap day so important? We’ve got the answers to all your leap day questions here at the North Yearbook headquarters!

What is leap day?
Leap day is a day that is added to our calendar every four years and is dated February 29th.
Why do we need a leap day?
A leap day is needed because each revolution around the sun takes more than 24 hours, and without a leap day we would lose six hours a year! Over 100 years that time would accumulate to almost an entire month difference between our calendar and our actual position in orbit.
How can we celebrate leap day?
Leap day may seem like a wasted day, but around the world people have found cool ways to celebrate! Celebrations include throwing parties and spending time with family and friends. Other traditions include setting four year goals and seeing if you accomplish them on this unusual date. Another way to celebrate is to LEAP!

Fun Leap Day Facts!

  • People born on leap day are called leaplings or leapers
  • The Titanic sank during a leap year in 1912
  • Amy Adams and Matthew Goode starred in the 2010 movie entitled “Leap Year”

In The Spirit of Sadies!

The week leading up to Sadies, or the Winter Formal, is very hectic. But, the spirit days help calm those nerves. This year's spirit week included pajama day, twin day, jersey day, hat/flannel day, and North spirit day. Then Saturday, all three Waukesha schools come together at Waukesha West to dance the night away. We asked two Sophomore couples to give us their thoughts about the week and Sadies. It's interesting to see how their answers differ.

Lexi Burgos and Sam Hallett

What was your favorite spirit day theme and why?

"North spirit day because it's really fun and I can show off my school pride."
"The North one because I have the most North stuff."

How do you feel about the combined school Sadies?

"I am excited because there will be a lot of people and it will be very fun. Also, I get to see all my friends that go to different schools that I don't get to see day to day."
"I don't like the idea because there will be too many people. It would be more fun if it was just North."

Joe Laste and Morgan Weyer

What was your favorite spirit day theme and why?

"I liked pajama day because I was really comfortable."
"I liked jersey day because I love wearing jerseys and I could show off my favorite team."

How do you feel about the combined school Sadies?

"It'll be very cool because I can see many people I haven't seen in a long time."
"Indifferent because it's still going to be the same experience."

So you don't miss out on the photos from the dance, go buy a yearbook today!

Shooting for a Cure!

Shooting for a Cure!

Over the course of the month, the Girl's Basketball Team raised a total of $2,016. The players and the coaches started the month by selling shirts, with the saying "Shooting for a Cure" on them. They also went door to door to different businesses to ask for donations for the raffle. Another thing they did was sell homemade cupcakes during all three lunches. Their fundraiser ended last night with the pink out game. During the game, there was a bake sale, a raffle, and a frisbee toss in which the winner won a $50 visa gift card. Last night was also the night the North Dance Team and the North Pep Band performed. Also, it was the night that the Junior Northstar Girl's Basketball Team got to be recognized.

Deadlines, deadlines and more Deadlines!

As of now your 2015-2016 Northern Lights Yearbook is almost 60% done! It's a slow process but its all finally coming together. We might be biased, but the book gets better every year. We've put in tons of details, covered too many events to count, and been focused on covering everything with top notch stories and photos. As we work, one thing we like to do is recognize the creators of some of these awesome pages. So for our third deadline of the year, the staff voted on and named the pages deemed: Best Story, Best Photo, and Best Overall Page.
Taylor Butryn and Malory Strehl received: BEST PHOTO for the Prom Fashion Show Page
Lexi Witek, Sydney Budelier & Sarah Wilke received: BEST STORY for Cancer Survivor's Page
Henry Laste received: BEST OVERALL PAGE for the *new* Quiz page

Congrats to the page winners for Deadline 3!

And remember, you don't want to miss out...
Buy your yearbook to be able to see these amazing pages, you don't want to forget everything that happened HERE this year :)

Groundhog's Day

Yesterday was Groundhog's Day and our lovely groundhog Phil did not see his shadow. Mr.Phil, who is our go to of whom we project over television, resides in Pennsylvania.

Canada's groundhog, Sam, as well as Georgia's Lee and New York's Chuck all came to the same conclusion as Phil - they didn't see their shadow.

By none of them seeing their shadow, hopefully it means our spring will be earlier rather than six weeks later. Maybe we can put away our jackets, and our spring sports can start strong for the upcoming season.

Remember when the weather gets warm and spring comes, don't forget to thank the groundhogs!

Strut Your Stuff 2016

Strut Your Stuff is an annual fashion show put on by Waukesha North Students. The fashion show reaches out to all different people in the community including getting all of the Waukesha High schools involved. The fashion show happens after multiple weeks of clothing drives, outfit making, and reaching out to the people in the community. Each year the event chooses a charity close to home to sponsor. This year's charity that Strut Your Stuff is sponsoring, is the Waukesha Women's Center. This means all of the clothes donated both in the show and clothes that were not featured on the runway are donated to the Women's Center.
Strut Your Stuff also participates in many different fundraising activities to raise money for the charity, including restaurant events, and miracle minute at a basketball game and at the actual show. The group also sells T-shirts that say "Strut Your Stuff" on them and the charity they are sponsoring on the back. T-shirts may be pre-ordered before school at the school store from seven a.m. until eight a.m. The price of the shirts have not been determined yet due to price changing based off how many sales the group will make, the price will probably range between $10-$12. Shirts will still be available to purchase without pre-ordering, once they arrive but for a higher cost than the pre-ordered shirts.  Every Monday after the shirts have arrived will be a spirit day called "Maroon Monday." The group hopes everyone wears their Strut Your Stuff shirts on Mondays along with their Monday accessories  to promote the show.
The show date will be Saturday June 4th at Waukesha North High School, until then you can bring in your gently used or new clothing items into the school store before school, or contact Sierra Gardner, Isabella Brazzoni, or Danielle Bowman. You can also sign up to be a model this week before school until Friday January 29th. Signing up to help at the show is open anytime until the show, if you need volunteer hours we will find something for you to do. For now clean out your closets and donate! See you June 4th!
